Most hiking guides tell you to go up early, come down before dark. Nobody mentions the part where you're fine until mile 8 and suddenly your knees are negotiating with your brain 🥾Trail maps that show you where people actually walk, not where the park service thinks they should. The difference is WILD!The best hiking trail near me is technically closed, so everyone takes the detour that's twice as long and somehow way better. Wonder if that's intentional? Most hiking trail reviews are trash because they rate based on 'difficulty' but never mention the one thing that actually matters: is the view worth stopping for or do you hike it to say you did it! 🥾Someone mapped every waterfall accessible within a day hike of major cities—turns out there's way more than you'd expect hiding in your backyard.Hiked the same trail every week for a year. Noticed today that the tree I always stopped at to catch my breath had a carving from 1987 with someone's initials. Made me wonder what their hike was like.
